Festival Rules:
Our rules change as new issues arise. We encourage you to let a member of the Festival Board know if
there are things we need to change. You can do this during the Festival by speaking with any of us. We will
be listed in the Festival Guide and our booth numbers will be given, or you can find us at the information
booth. Alternatively, you can email to ketchum_arts_festival@yahoo.com. If you wish to remain anonymous,
that's not a problem. We will honor your request.
Festival Rules for Ketchum Arts Festival 2012
1. Generators are not permitted on Festival Grounds.
2. You may not sell your work outside of your assigned booth space and the area within a couple of feet of
it. Please do not infringe on your neighbors' spaces. Artists whose booths face Sun Valley Rd. may display
large scale artworks between their booths and the road at the discretion of the KAF board.
3. Umbrellas are permitted, but the need to be weighted to withstand 60 m/p.h. winds and set up touching
your booth. Please, no cantilevered umbrellas as they cannot be controlled in high winds. We have
designed wide aisles, but all aisles must be kept clear for fire truck easement.
4. No roaming vendors.
5. Please keep music (radios, instruments you play, etc.) at a low volume out of consideration for other
artists and patrons.
6. Due to customer complaints about artists' dogs, we prefer you do not bring your dog to the Festival. If
you do, your dog must be on a short leash and tied up (when not being walked) according to the City of Sun
Valley law, and you will be responsible for any damage or injuries it may cause. If a scuffle occurs, you will
be asked to remove your dog from the Festival site. Here is an eloquent comment from one of our artists
about a problem at a previous
Festival.
When there was a dog scuffle in our aisle, people ran for cover and would not stay to
browse or shop. I love dogs, and love how they are integrated into the community, but art shows are
not the place for dogs.
It is not fair to all of us artists who have invested so much time and expense into our products,
and it is not fair to all the dogs. There is no way all of them can stay well behaved at all times.
7. Please refrain from smoking on Festival grounds.
8. The Board of Directors of the Ketchum Arts Festival reserves the right to ask artists to move, modify or
remove items that we deem inappropriate or dangerous.
Please note that many of the above rules are due to requirements of the City of Sun Valley, which owns
Festival Meadow. We want to be certain to follow them so that we will be welcome at this beautiful venue in
the future.
9. AN ADDITIONAL, VERY IMPORTANT RULE:
We learn something every year. In 2010, we had problems with artists bringing their vehicles
into the tent area and driving incautiously WHEN THERE WERE STILL PATRONS ON THE
GROUNDS!! So, we said that in 2011 no vehicles would be allowed in the artist tent area until 6:
30 p.m. (The Festival closes at 6 p.m.) Additionally, vehicles are permitted in this area only for
loading your stuff. DO NOT BRING YOUR VEHICLE INTO THE AREA UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO
LOAD IT. Bring it in, load your things, and leave, being aware that chaos may surround you.
We added, if we cooperate in this way, we should be able to clear the grounds as quickly as
we have in the past, as there have been delays due to artists who have pulled their vehicles up
to their tents and then begin to load items one by one instead of packing up and loading all at
once.
UNFORTUNATELY, THIS DID NOT WORK IN 2011. As if cued by the gunshot at the beginning of a
race, vehicles began pouring onto the grounds promptly at 6:30, whether or not tents had been
disassembled and wares had been packed.
We were disappointed to see that artists who have participated in the Festival for several years
were among these—even backing into other artists' tents, blocking aisles, etc.
Therefore, this year, no vehicles will be permitted in the tent area without a pass indicating that
your booth has been checked for the following:
1) You've packed all of your stuff.
2) Your tent is broken down and ready to load.
3) You've picked up any debris from your tent area.
We will have monitors handing out passes that give access to the grounds to those who are
ready to load up and leave. Those without passes will be directed to Sun Valley Rd., where they
can find a parking space off the Festival Grounds and return when they have a pass.
This is not something we wanted to intiate, but we fear artists may be hurt and property
damaged if the usual melee is repeated. I can personally attest to the carelessness that occurs
at breakdown because another artist ran over one of the support poles for my 10x20 tent, and
didn't even stop to see what they had hit. From now on, if you feel a bump, stop. You may have
run down a dear friend.
If you are a local, consider breaking down your tent, packing your things, and going to dinner
to keep the area clear for guest artists who are facing long drives home.
